[Interview] “The first single from Area21 album will be release on April”, Martin Garrix in Interview with 947 Joburg

The first single from Area21 album will be release on April 2021 and it’s very different with Martin Garrix’s usual sounds. In this album, Martijn played guitar and drums. While in May, Martin Garrix will drop his new song with the biggest collaboration in his life for Euro 2021. Aww… I really want April to come soon.

[Interview] Martin Garrix Talk about Tove Lo, Skills Required To Reach Bigger Audience, and Things He’s Missing in Interview with Big FM

On 26 February, Martin Garrix appeared on Germany radio Big FM. He talked about his newest single “Pressure” which is something new for both him and singer-songwriter Tove Lo. Martijn explained that the collaboration happened through the internet and he hasn’t met Tove Lo in person. It’s similar with his collaboration with Elderbrook which he also hasn’t met yet. He praised Tove Lo and said he choose her because she’s so cool.

I had this demo which sounded weird but cool. And I love how cool Tove is & her previous songs. I love her and her voice. We reached out to her and then she crushed the vocal. She changed the lyrics and wrote a whole new part in the end. It’s crazy. We did everything over the internet and facetime. We haven’t met in real life yet because of corona. But we can’t wait to perform it, hopefully soon, at festival together.

[Interview] Martin Garrix Talk about Driving Lessons, Having His Own Stamp and Making Songs in Dutch in Interview with SLAM! Radio

On Sunday 21 February, Martin Garrix appear in an online interview with SLAM! Radio. They first talk about hilarious video that Martin Garrix posted on his social media few days ago. In the video Martin Garrix was driving with an instructor for driving lesson. Martin Garrix revealed that the video is already four years old (so from 2016-2017) but no one knows about it until he shared it a few days ago. He think he was so bad in the driving lesson that he decided the world is a safer place when he doesn’t drive and just sit at the back of the car 😂.

When the radio DJ asked him what car he will buy if someday he has drivers license, Martijn said he hasn’t even really thought about it and he’s just very happy living in Amsterdam.

From watching The Martin Garrix Show you can see that Martijn’s life seems like train that never pulls a brake but with corona pandemic all of that just suddenly came to stop. So the DJ asked Martijn about what he do in this situation aside from making music. Martin Garrix said that it’s usually difficult to find time to be with family and friends because he usually touring so much. With all the free time now he has time to breath and spend the time with his family. But he really miss tour and he can’t wait for festival to come back.

Back in 2020, Martin Garrix get his own stamp. The DJ curious about how Martin Garrix’s father react to that since his father used to run a stamp auction house. Martijn said that his father was super happy and proud about it. As a son, seeing your parents happy and proud of you feels super special. His father used to own an auction house specialized in stamps which is also the reason why he named his record label STMPD RCRDS. Martijn says that the process to make stamps is very interesting and complicated, and that there is a lot of history of how stamps got made. When he was asked whether his father more proud of him when he was voted number one DJ in the world or when he got his own stamp, Martin Garrix said that his father is more proud of the stamp 😉.

Some DJ such as Armin Van Buuren also make songs in Dutch so the radio DJ asked Martijn if he would ever make a song in Dutch. Martijn said that he wrote the lyrics himself for a lot of his songs but it usually only in English. Maybe he will do it in the future. The DJ said that next year will be 10 years since Martin Garrix won SLAM! FM ‘DJ Talent of the Year’ Award in 2012. They also talk about how Tiesto has become a father and Afrojack who just got married and what Martijn’s thought about that. Martijn said he hasn’t really thought about that yet but he’s super happy for them.

[Trivia] The Reason Why Martin Garrix Doesn’t Have Drivers License

This is something that kind of become a running joke among garrixers, but Martin Garrix doesn’t drive. It was said that even before pandemic Martin Garrix has practiced social distancing with drivers license😂😂.

Martijn actually has answered the question regarding how he hasn’t get his license several times, citing that the world will be a safer place if he just get in the backseat. We actually get a small glimpse of what he means when we saw video of Afrojack teaching Martijn how to drive.

But we only fully understand what he means when Martijn finally posted old video of him when he was receiving his driving lesson🤣🤣. Watch the adorable video below, featuring racing car imitation, incomprehensible noises and choo choo train.

Martin Garrix is just so adorable😂. But I was wondering if his instructor’s heart at the time was okay when accompanying him in the car😂. We better stay inside if someday Martijn is driving on the road.

[Interview] Martin Garrix on Pressure, Euro, Area21, and His Admiration For David Guetta in the Interview with Fun Radio France

On 17 February, Martin Garrix appeared on Fun Radio. When he was asked about his latest single “Pressure” and how his collaboration with Tove Lo came to be. He explained, “It started with a demo that I made with two of my Swedish friends (Osrin and Wilhelm). At first we have Wilhelm’s voice in it and when we pitched it lower it gave a sexy vibe, really different from what I ever did. I love Tove Lo so when we were looking for a female voice we reach out to her and she liked the song a lot. So she recorded the song and I’m really happy with it”.

Regarding his music, Martijn said he had time to be more creative now. 

“I get really experimental in the studio. Before, I will be in the middle of tour, come home, and perform in the festivals. But now that there’s no festival, it feels weird to make euphoric festival song. So it open up a new section of my brain where I become more experimental. A song like Pressure, it’s not a song that I’ll be able to release a year ago . Now is the time to be experimental and try out new things”.

Martijn also give update on his theme song for Euro 2021 although he couldn’t said much about Euro because he just make the music and everything is up to the organizer of the competition. But currently the song is moved to May and will be release either way.

When he was asked about possibility of other collaboration with David Guetta, Martin Garrix expressed his admiration for the senior DJ. ” I love David. I’ve known him since I was 14-15 and he always encouraged me by teaching me a lot of things. Not just in music, but also industry wise. I love him as a friend and I love what he did this year. He really raised the bar on livestreams. And who knows maybe we can both release something in the future”.

Regarding Area21, Martin Garrix wish he could say everything about the full album but for now he must keep it. He can only say that it will be exciting and that people will be able to hear it soon.

Martin Garrix Radio has also been available on Youtube for sometime. The reason Martin Garrix has this weekly radio show is to showcase what music that he’s been listening and also to push new talent that he like to listen through his platform.

Currently, Martin Garrix has grow up since he first rose to prominent with “Animals”. When asked what would his advice from himself now to Martin Garrix who hasn’t released “Animals” yet, he said “have fun, enjoy, trust your gut’s feeling and do whatever you want to do. Don’t get too distracted by people who want to push you down. You’re the artist and you should make whatever that make you happy. First of all, do what feels right for you”.
